La Vilella Alta
The municipality is the smallest in the whole of the Priorat region with an area of just 5.25 km2. It is centred around the Riuet d’Eescaladei river valley, shortly before its joins the Montsant river. The entire right side is formed by the cliffs of the Serra del Montsant, known here as the "cingles dels Montalts" (Montalt Cliffs).
The majority of the municipality, all the foothills of Montsant, forms part of the Serra del Montsant Natural Park.
The village dates from 1286 and was the work of the Cartoixa d'Escaladei (Escaladei Carthusian monks). Its history is closely entwined with that of the monastery.
The Winery is located on the outskirts of La Vilella Alta, in an old farm that has been completely transformed into a winery of 550 square metres, along with a 100 square-metre tasting room. The best thing about the winery is its location, facing the Montsant mountain range and the town of La Figuera, offering incredible views and tranquillity. The winery is perfectly insulated with all the necessary temperature controls and facilities for making wine. The Winery has an area for wine-making with various stainless steel tanks and oak vats, as well as an area for barrel-ageing and bottle-ageing the wine.
